Saskia Baetens
Belgian/New Zealand artist and architectural graduate. Saskia was born in Turnhout, Belgium. She lives and works in Auckland, has a Bachelor of Fine Art from Elam and is a graduate of the University of Auckland School of Architecture.
The work mixes imagery from Saskia’s childhood, from enchanted summer days, dreams and stories, real life observations of pet animals, myths, and collective memories embodied in heroic bronze or traditional stone lithography. Her drawings and sculptures invited the viewer to a deceivingly simple journey of imagination the explorative fascination of what might co-exist within the realms of limitless scale and crossbreeding.
