Michelle O'Loughlin

Though not originally from New Zealand, Michelle O'Loughlin is fortunate to call it home, where their practice explores themes of history and memory through sculptural vessels to hold lights. Influenced by the shared materials and their colonial past, their pieces seek to unearth and give voice to lost stories and truths. Using New Zealand porcelain, Michelle fashions unique forms, starting from a sphere and allowing each piece to organically evolve through high-firing. Their sculptures stand as a testament to the interplay of personal and collective histories, inviting viewers to reflect on the layered narratives embedded in their materials.
