Nereids are sea nymphs of saltwater, mythological goddesses or kaitiaki, responsible for protecting the body of water they inhabit, and the creatures that lived there. With the ecological crisis impacting the world’s oceans and waterways, I was interested through the constructed nature of photography to imagine a contemporary representation of these mythical eco warriors. The Nereid 'Erato' is the goddess of awakening of desire, in this work she represents an awakening of desire amongst humanity to see our oceans respected and protected.
